The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of three persons by the army on the Line of Control after it said an infiltration bid had been foiled in north Kashmir's Machil sector of Kupwara district.
The Jammu and Kashmir police averted a major tragedy on Tuesday evening, as it rescued over 100 people from their houses hit by landslides in the Chadyan village in the border town of Uri in north Kashmir.
Militants attacked Ghulam Nabi Khan, president of the Sopore trader's federation, in the main chowk of the town on Sunday morning. They shot at Khan, who was critically injured, a senior police official said. "Khan was taken to the local hospital at Sopore where he succumbed to his injuries," the officer said. The area was surrounded by the police and paramilitary forces and a massive hunt was launched to nab the killers, said the police.
